Changing Hearts, Changing Lives, Changing the World!
Changing Hearts, Changing Lives, Changing the World!
In September of 1941, James and Mollie Hunt moved to Abingdon. They opened their home for Sunday services. On April 16, 1942, this home church became part of the newly established Assemblies of God church on the corner of Monmouth and Main streets known as Abingdon First Assembly. The pastor was Roy Meredith.
Revivals were numerous in the early years. God’s blessing was upon the church. In 1953 an expansion was necessary to add classroom space. In 1969, the new building was dedicated in its current location on Martin street. In 1976 a fellowship hall was added that includes additional classrooms, kitchen and meeting space.
In September 2018 the Church was gifted the Care Center of Abingdon by RFMS allowing the church to turn it in to the Abingdon Community Center. This great blessing not only increased the Churches campus size but allowed the Church to continue to pour out the love of Christ on the community as it had from its creation.
In February 2020 the Church board and members announced Abingdon First Assembly of God would change it's name to New Harvest Church. This change would not only embrace her rich past of harvesting souls but call to future generations.
Since 1941, God has been mightily at work in the lives of the people of New Harvest Church . While the congregation fully embraces her history, she is alive, growing and thriving in a world desperately in need of Jesus.
